I like to think of the GPS spoof as a way to get a good laugh. I have been spoofing locations for years and years, and these days I like to pretend I’m right in my house and looking out my window while the GPS is tracking me.
I have also been spoofing the locations of my house and my son’s school. For example, I’ll fake an address for my house in the Midwest. Or I’ll fake an address for my son’s school in Southern California. I like to know if my kids are having a good day or not because I like to think that I might be having a good day too.
I’m not sure how anyone could live such a life without a GPS. People in our society seem to have to rely on cell phones more than ever, but they still tend to have a GPS. People in our society are often not so aware of how their phones are tracking them.
I think people tend to get too wrapped up in their phones, which they assume is tracking them, to be aware of their phones. However, if you can fool an innocent person into thinking that you are not using your phone, you are taking a huge step towards using the phone more and more. That’s especially true of children who are very susceptible to the power of the phone. A GPS spoof should not be done without some knowledge of the location.
The question is, “Why?” Why would you do this to yourself and others? Well, because if you don’t know where you are, then you will not know where other people are, which is a problem. That is why it is important to always be aware of where you are. But more importantly, because there is no better way to use GPS to get out from under the gun.
Another reason to avoid hacking into a GPS is the potential of people who may be in the area using it themselves. This includes hackers in the military, who may be monitoring cell phone signals.
It’s also important to note that the majority of hackers operate on an invisible network. They don’t have a GPS, and they can’t be targeted by a GPS because they don’t know where they are, so there is no way to identify them. That is why GPS spoofing can be used to steal someone else’s cell phone (or a GPS) without them knowing.
GPS spoofing is the practice of using a GPS signal to trick a receiver into thinking its a different GPS location. This can be done, for example, by using a satellite to fake its position based on the time of day. Another way to spoof a location with a GPS signal is to set it up so the receiver can be confused by the time signal.
The people who would use GPS spoofing to steal a phone or GPS without them knowing is the same group that’s interested in finding out who’s using the GPS signal to steal cellphones and GPS locations. Some are interested in stealing a phone from someone who’s never seen it before (like me). Some are interested in stealing a GPS from someone they know well (like the guys in the first half of the trailer. I’ll let you guess which one).
The same gps spoofing guys who are interested in stealing a phone from you are probably interested in stealing a cell phone from you too. I guess when you’re the same company that is trying to get to the top of the Android charts, you’re the type of person who would use a GPS spoof to get the attention of the authorities.
