This is one of those things that I think is really really important for people to realize. We all have to start from where we’re at. We all have to realize that no one knows everything, and when we get to the point where we have no idea where we’re going, we need to stop and ask ourselves if we can go somewhere that we just don’t know how to get to.
This is a common problem that new developers encounter and one that you can see in my first post. In that same post I talk about my approach to game development, specifically game design. I think the key things to remember is that you need to know your audience, you need to understand their challenges, and you need to be able to empathize with them. If you are just creating a game that is for you, you probably won’t be doing a very good job.
This is one of the most common problems new developers face. They don’t really know what the problem is, or what they want to solve, so they end up reinventing it until they get it right. Sometimes this leads to a lot of rework, and sometimes a game is just a mess. But in either case, it’s always better to figure out what the problem is and how to get it solved.
I could list hundreds of problems and game design pitfalls that new developers face, but that won’t tell you everything you need to know. If you are just starting out, make sure you know what you want to do before any rough work gets done. For example, if you are just creating a game for yourself, it may be easier to just make it so it is easy for you.
I’ll use the example of a game I did for my company. We were trying to make a game about a man named Nick. Nick was a great guy. He was a college student, had been around the world, and was a nice person. But he was also a bit of a goofball, and we were trying to make Nick a bit of a goofball.
